Signs that Your Heat Pump Needs Repair
May 3, 2016
Do you suspect that your heat pump may be out of commission? Here are some foolproof ways to tell if your heat pump may need repairing:
- Your heat pump is past its due date. Every heat pump has a lifespan that should not be exceeded. Most heat pumps do not last beyond 10- 15 years. If your pump is over 15 years old, and you’re experiencing constant problems, it’s definitely time to replace it!
- You constantly hear noise coming from your pump. Are you hearing strange noises coming from your heat pump? A rattling, groaning, or rumbling noise may not necessarily be cause for alarm – but you should have this checked out. It could be an indicator that something is wrong with your pump’s mechanics.
- Your electric bills are consistently high. If your utility bills have been higher than normal, and you’ve been using your heat pump the same as always, it’s time to have things checked out. This could be a sign that your pump needs repairing.
- Your heat pump is producing less heat than is normal. One of the surefire signs that something is indeed wrong with your heat pump is if your pump is producing less heat. Be sure to check your thermostat and level of refrigerant, first, though. If you don’t notice a problem with either, it’s time to call a professional HVAC technician.
