HVAC Tasks You Should Complete at the End of Winter
March 1, 2015
One of the best times of the year for many people is when the cold and dark days of winter end. This is a sign of warmer and brighter weather to come, and this may even help lift your spirits. Completing certain tasks on your HVAC unit may be foremost in your mind to help keep it in the best possible condition. Knowing specific tips that can improve the functioning of your HVAC unit annually are important to complete.
Test the Thermostat
Changing the setting on your thermostat from heat to cool should be done at the end of winter. This will help ensure that everything in this component is in working order and that you won’t encounter any problems with your AC. Simply switch the settings and check the temperature coming from the air vents to ensure it’s working properly.
Clean the Air Vents
During the long days of winter, you may have let your air ducts get cluttered, and this can decrease the amount of air input into your home. Be sure to check for toys, shoes or clothing that may have fell by the wayside and could be blocking the air vents in your home.
Check the Condensation Bin
You’ll want to be sure your unit has the right amount of moisture in it, but not overly so. You can look at the condensation bin that sits underneath your outdoor unit to see if it feels wet. This is also a good time to ensure it hasn’t overflowed which is a sign of too much condensation.
