Optimize Your Furnace – Change Your Filters Regularly
February 27, 2015
The filter in your heating system can drastically affect the performance and efficiency of your heating system, sometimes by as much as 40%. What is a potentially easy and quick job, can often be overlooked as unimportant or as something that you just don’t want to do. Filters are available in simple & cheap disposable form right through to fully allergenic HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) which can be reused.
Filtering
The furnace filter was originally designed to screen out larger particles from the air entering your furnace, mainly to avoid damaging the furnace system itself. As technology increased and material engineering became easier, the filters still screen the air to the furnace, but they are also capable of screening the air in your home; reducing airborne particulates, spores, mites and even micro-organisms, all proven clean air techniques.
Disposable & Washable
Filters can be picked up for as little as $1 or $2, these are clearly designed to be disposable and will only screen out the largest of particles, don’t expect them to clean the air. The other end of the range is super-efficient, cleanable and reusable filters than will keep the air clean and could be used in circumstances where people have respiratory disorders or even autoimmune disease – think hospital air quality.
Schedule
The cheaper and basic disposable filters should really be replaced every two months – costing a dime per week is pretty good value if you ask us. The more expensive filters will usually last a little longer, but you really need to take advice from a professional regarding your circumstances and home needs.
