Where to Place Your Air Purifier
June 11, 2014
More and more people are thinking about improving their indoor air quality. In addition to having their ducts cleaned, many of them are also considering the purchase of an air purifier. But in order to ensure the highest level of efficiency and effectiveness, it’s very important to make sure you put it in the right place. Here are some considerations to keep in mind.
The Size of the Area
First you need to think about how much space you’re trying to purify. Typically, the maximum amount of area that can effectively be purified by one unit is about 650 square feet. If you need more than this, you’ll probably want to get more than one air purifier.
The Areas Prone to the Most Pollution
Certain rooms in your home are probably more prone to indoor pollutants than others. These include rooms were pets tend to stay more often, the kitchen (if you use your stove a great deal), and rooms that may have recently been painted. In addition, if you have smokers who tend to congregate in one area of the home, you’ll definitely want an air purifier in that room. You may also want to think about keeping the unit in the living room during the day and the bedroom when you go to sleep.
Noise
There are some models of air purifier that make more noise than others. As a result, you won’t want it in the bedroom or in a place where you may have a hard time hearing a conversation. If those are considerations, than make sure you do some homework to find the model that is the most quiet.
It’s also important that you make sure you understand what type of air purifier you’re getting. By that we mean if you have a unit that needs to have more space around it, don’t try to put it up against the wall. Also, you’ll more than likely need to make sure you keep at least a foot or two of clearance around the air intake. If you have space limitations, look at a unit that has a top outlet as well as a front air inlet.
