Why Are There Hot Spots in My Home?
November 13, 2017
A lot of homeowners throughout the country are no doubt preparing for the arrival of much cooler temperatures. Here in Florida, though, our winter season is quite mild, and much shorter than in these other areas. Suffice to say, our focus on our air conditioning systems outweighs that on our heaters. That is why any issues with our air conditioning systems are of such concern. Of course, some comfort problems that you encounter in your home may not be the direct result of a problem with the system itself.
Hot spots throughout the house, for example, may be the result of any number of problems. Regardless of the particular cause of your hot spots, though, this is a problem that is best resolved as soon as possible. You don’t want to live in discomfort, and you certainly don’t want to be paying more than you should have to in order to cool your home. Here are a few reasons why you may notice hot spots in your home. If you do, be sure to schedule your AC repairs in Miami, FL with us.
Undersized Equipment
Have you always struggled to cool your home in an effective manner throughout? If so, then you may have an air conditioner that is simply unable to do so due to improper sizing. If your cooling demand is overwhelming your air conditioner, then it is possible that your air conditioner is simply too small to do the job. Unfortunately, if this is the case, then there is really no way in which to “fix” the problem without replacing the air conditioner with an appropriately sized system. This type of issue is a perfect example of why it is so important to leave your AC installation to trained professionals.
Subpar Insulation
Remember when we said that hot spots in your home may not be the direct result of problems with your air conditioner itself? (We hope so, because it is just a couple of paragraphs above!) Well, this is exactly the type of situation that we were referencing in that claim. If you don’t have sufficient insulation in any area of your home, or if the insulation that is there is degraded or damaged by pests, then you will experience unwanted and excessive heat transfer into your home. Heat will always seek out a cooler environment, and that means your home when you are running your AC!
Damaged Ductwork
Another potential cause of hot spots in your home is leaky ductwork. If your air ducts are damaged and leaking, then they may pull in hot air from unconditioned areas in your home. When that happens, your system will struggle to make up the difference, leaving those areas affected hotter than others. This puts excessive strain on your system and may result in reduced indoor air quality as well, so scheduling prompt duct sealing or repair in such cases is definitely in your best interest.
