Why Cool My Home with a Heat Pump?
July 10, 2017
There are a lot of different air conditioning systems on the market today, which is great news for discerning homeowners bent on finding the best possible system for their home and their own personal user preferences. While variety may be the spice of life, though, having so much variety can actually make choosing a new air conditioner something of a daunting task. We’re here to help you make the decision with confidence, and one system that we definitely recommend is a heat pump.
The heat pump is one of the most popular of all home cooling systems in our area, and it is not difficult to understand why. These systems offer many benefits to homeowners around here, and can last a good, long while when professionally installed and serviced. Read on, and let us know if you think that a heat pump is right for your home.
Efficiency and Versatility
There is no denying the fact that a good central air conditioning system can cool your home effectively and reliably. Why is it that a homeowner would want to choose a heat pump in Miami, FL, then? After all, both are forced air cooling systems. How big of a difference could there be?
Well, there is one huge one, and it is the key to the heat pump’s unique operation. The system is capable of reversing its refrigerant cycle and the function of its indoor and outdoor coils. That means that it is capable of reversing its function, allowing it to double as an incredibly efficient heating system.
Remember, an air conditioner does not somehow generate cool air from nothing. Instead, it removes heat from the air in your home, and then circulates that cooled air back throughout the house. It accomplishes this by evaporating refrigerant in the indoor evaporator coil. That refrigerant draws heat out of the air, and then releases that heat outside when it is condensed in the condenser unit.
A component called the reversing valve flips this process, meaning that the heat pump can draw heat out of the air outside and use it to heat the air in your house. This heat transfer process is far more efficient and affordable than generating new heat, as you would with a furnace or other more traditional heating system. Because our winter weather is obviously very mild, and we don’t use our heaters anywhere near as much as we do our air conditioning systems, the heat pump makes a lot of sense in this area.
Just keep in mind the fact that even the best home comfort systems will fail to live up to their maximum potential if they are not installed properly, of the right size for the house, and tuned up regularly. Also keep in mind the fact that a heat pump is pulling double duty, and should be tuned up twice a year, rather than just once.
