Choosing Your Air Purifier: Pollutant Removal, or Destruction?
December 5, 2016
The quality of the air in your home is every bit as important as the temperature of the air. After all, you are not really going to live comfortably if pollutants in the air are causing your asthma and allergy symptoms to flare up. If you think that the standard air filter in your furnace or central AC is enough to protect your indoor air quality, you’ll learn the hard way that it isn’t.
In many cases, even more efficient air filters are not enough to fully resolve the indoor air quality problems faced by some homeowners. In those cases, the use of an air purifier in Miami, FL can be hugely beneficial. But which is right for your needs?
Dealing with Pollutants: To Remove, or Destroy?
Destroying pollutants may sound a bit melodramatic, but it is actually an accurate description of how certain air purifiers deal with biological pollutants. These pollutants include viruses, mold, and bacteria, and they are living microorganisms. The problem with simply filtering these pollutants out of the air is that they are not only tiny, but they can also continue to reproduce even after they’ve been removed from the air.
Using an air purifier like UV germicidal lights solves this problem. UV, or ultraviolet, radiation will disrupt these types of pollutants at a biological level. They will be destroyed or, at the very least, incapable of reproduction. That way, you don’t have to worry about their numbers growing even as they are trapped on filtering media.
Keep in mind, though, that these types of air purifiers are not going to remove materials such as dust or dirt from the air. A good air filter can do so, but you may want to consider a more active approach to the issue. An electronic air purifier, for instance, can ionize pollutants in the air within its ionization chamber. These pollutants are then trapped on oppositely charged collection plates, and can be easily removed by the homeowner.
We recommend that you at least use a pollutant removal air purifier, or a good air filter, in order to protect your indoor air quality. If you are up against biological pollutants, though, a multi-pronged approach is really your best bet.
