One Hour Air Conditioning & Heating of Houston and The Backpack Buddy Food Drive
October 18, 2022
Giving back to the Houston community has always been a priority for the One Hour Air Conditioning and Heating of Houston team. For over 50 years, they have served the Houston area with quality HVAC services and are always looking for ways to give back to the community they live and work in! Over the years, this team has worked with organizations like Camp Hope, Secret Santa Toy Drive, and more.
Jimmy Sanchez, General Manager, enjoys getting him and his team involved in raising awareness of community needs and supporting financially. The One Hour team has sponsored and participated in the KHOU 11 Backpack Buddy Food Drive (formally known as the Stand Against Hunger Food Drive) first in 2021, making this the second year in a row. The Backpack Buddy program addresses food insecurity and provides at-risk students with meals for the weekend. Nearly one in five children in southeast Texas is considered food insure, which means they don’t have access to consistent nutritious meals. Many students in our community rely on school meals, which is why programs like Backpack Buddy are working hard to fill the gaps.
At the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year, KHOU, the One Hour team and other Houston-area sponsors helped raise awareness for this cause. Thanks to everyone's effort and support, over $41,000 was raised for the Houston Food Bank, which will help thousands of families and students. For every dollar, the Food Bank can provide three meals, which will supply over 81,600 weekend meals for those dealing with food insecurity. Also, over 13,000 students will receive a "backpack" of 6 meals every Friday during the school year thanks to this campaign!
The One Hour team is thankful to have participated in this event and looks forward to future partnerships with KHOU and the Food Bank. For more details on this event, check out the recap video below!
