The official start of summer is still a few weeks away, but the sweltering heat that comes with it will be here before you know it! Save yourself time and money by making sure you and your home are ready. Here are ten things you can do NOW to prepare.

1. Change Your Filter

You’ve heard this one before. Changing your filter at least once every three months will keep the air circulating through your home clean and your system working efficiently. And if you’re a member of our Comfort Club, you can get your filter for FREE!

2. Turn Your A/C On (it’s been a while)

It’s probably been five months since the cooling portion of your home comfort system has been on. Fire it up and confirm everything is in working order before you have to depend on it for you and your family’s comfort.

3. Schedule a Tune-Up

Having an annual tune-up performed by one of our trusted technicians will help reduce the chance of system failure, maintain your air conditioner’s efficiencies, and prolong the equipment’s life. And don’t forget, it’s GUARANTEED!

4. Replace Your Old System (sooner than later)

Waiting for your system to break down before you replace it means you may have to sweat it out for up to two weeks before an installation day is available in the middle of the summer (our busiest time of the year). We encourage you to replace sooner than later to avoid those additional days of discomfort.

5. Invest in a Programmable Thermostat

Take control of your comfort by investing in a programmable thermostat. You’ll save money and avoid the headache of having to constantly reset the temperature depending on your schedule.

6. Ensure Your Outdoor Unit is Free of Debris

It’s recommended to have at least 1-3 feet or horizontal clearance to allow for optimum air intake. Leave 4-6 vertical feet to ensure proper heat dispersal. Especially after storms, make sure any and all debris is cleared from the unit.

7. Perform Your Own Energy Audit

8. Block Out Pests

Insects may attempt to invade your home this summer. Seals should be checked with your energy audit (see above), but you can also spray insecticide around the perimeter of your home to prevent infestations. Check under your sinks and any other warm areas inside your home as well.

9. Prevent Water Damage

Check your roof, gutters, windows, foundation, and doors for any damage before AND after any summer thunderstorms. Being proactive can save you a lot of money in the long run.

10. Make Room for Frozen Treats

This one is a no-brainer! Clean out your fridge and freezer to make room for your favorite snack. It will be a nice surprise this summer when you’re in need of a cool down. You can thank us later.
