Common Heat Pump Repair Needs
July 2, 2019
Heat pumps are versatile devices that can provide both heating and cooling to your home. No heat pump was created to last forever and inevitably, your heat pump will need repairs at some point in its lifespan. Here are a few common heat pump repairs you can expect.
Stuck Reversing Valve
The reversing valve on the heat pump allows it to switch between cooling and heating. If the switch is stuck in one mode, it needs to be repaired. If it can’t be fixed, it may need to be replaced for the heat pump to operate properly.
Bad Solenoid
The reversing valves have low-voltage electrical components called solenoids. These pieces help move the pump from one setting to the other. The wires within the solenoid can fray, disconnect, or corrode over time. Solenoids can be replaced so you shouldn’t have to replace the whole valve or the pump itself if this is the issue.
Refrigerant Leaks
There are a number of areas on a heat pump that can leak refrigerant. If it happens inside the reversing valve, the valve has to be replaced. It can be hard to locate the leak and only qualified technicians should handle it. If you suspect a leak in your heat pump, call for repairs.
