For those of us with allergies, many seemingly common things found in our homes can be a nuisance, a problem, or a real peril. Dust mites, pet dander, and mold are often found in homes, and when spring arrives, they will be joined by pollen to spell out disaster for people whose immune systems are overly sensitive to them. An AC system can help spread these unwanted particles around your home, but it can also help you get rid of them, depending on how you use it.

For one, regular maintenance checks will allow AC technicians to identify mold growth, and take appropriate actions to prevent it. If you skipped a check or two, and you’ve noticed there’s mold around your AC ducts or any other parts of the system, you should call a technician right away so they can assess the situation and thoroughly clean your system if needed.

Buying quality air filters can also help reduce the level of airborne allergens in your home. One thing you should look for when buying filters is their MIRV rating, a number which shows you how well do the filters do their job and filter your air. MIRV is short for Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value, and if you want a balance of filtration and performance, you should look for filters with a rating between five and thirteen. Anything lower than that and your air will not get enough filtration. Filters with a rating above thirteen can be taxing for your average home AC system.

Ideally, you want to prepare your anti-allergenic environment before springtime, and if you need any advice or help, you can always contact One Hour Air Largo. We can check your AC system for signs of mold, make it squeaky clean if needed, or install air filters that will suit your needs and your AC.
