Stay Cozy This Valentines Day With These Heating Tips
February 12, 2016
The temperature is dropping outside, but that’s no reason to be chilly at home. Even in sunny Florida, winter is making itself known. As Valentine’s Day approaches, there are a few simple tips that will keep you cozy and warm.
Maintain a Steady Temperature
Rather than blasting the heat for an hour before turning it off, and then repeating the process once the house cools down, it is much more cost efficient to simply maintain a comfortable temperature. Not only will this save on energy costs, but if the heat in your home is constantly shifting, it forces your body to compensate and creates strain.
Run a Fan
It may seem counterintuitive, but heat rises. Running a ceiling fan on a low setting can circulate some of that warm air back down. Doing this will enable you to keep the overall temperature lower without feeling cold. It will also help prevent any winter stuffiness, since fresh air won’t be naturally circulating through the closed windows.
Seal Windows and Doors
Not only should windows and doors be kept closed, but they should also be properly sealed to prevent cold air leaking in. There are products on the market that can be placed against the bottom of doors for just this purpose. In addition, weatherstripping windows can lower energy costs for years to come. To protect against consistently cold temperatures, there is even clear insulation film that can be placed temporarily over windows and removed once the weather improves.
Adjust the Temperature at Night
Studies have shown that people sleep better at slightly lower temperatures. Most people also have cozy duvets and quilts on their beds. This means that lowering the temperature by as much as 10 degrees at night won’t cause any discomfort. It will actually help the entire household sleep better. With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, it is also a good excuse to cuddle.
