What is Freon?
February 28, 2014
You’ve heard several remarks about Freon, but do you actually know what it is? Freon is a refrigerant—referred to as coolants, by many. Freon is a brand name, but most people use the term Freon to refer to all products that contain Dichlorodifluoromethane, or R-12. The production of Freon began in 1930, and was created to substitute toxic chemicals used up, and lead to cooling purposes. Freon is safe and has been used in a variety of products throughout its existence.
Freon is one of THE most important components of an air conditioner. All air conditioners need a refrigerant to produce that cool air we all desire on those hot Florida days. Yet, Freon is not just used in a home air conditioner, it’s also found in the air conditioning system of our automobiles and recreational vehicles. Without a refrigerant like Freon, your air conditioner will not be able to push cold air into the rooms of your home—creating an unpleasant situation for your entire family.
Living in Florida, It can be very warm at certain times of the year, so it’s extremely important to make sure that your air conditioner is working properly. By doing this, you can save a lot of money on your utility bills and a lot of aggravation in the long run. We recommend that you have your cooling system checked before you begin using it each season. If your air conditioner is not cooling properly, that could possibly mean that the Freon needs to be recharged. This situation shouldn’t be handled by an amateur, so for this type of problem, be sure to call an HVAC professional. With one of our professionals, your system will be fully checked out, your exact problem will be fixed, and you’ll be given the solution you deserve. Additionally, make sure you are having a professional do any other repairs needed on your air conditioner, because by attempting repairs unprofessionally, you are at risk of possible implications for your warranty.
