3 AC Noises That Can Spell Disaster for Your System
September 9, 2019
When the temperature continues to soar, keeping the AC system in your Baton Rouge, Louisiana, home running well becomes even more crucial. Due to age, poor maintenance, and simple wear and tear, your AC may exhibit problems, especially when you use it frequently. One way to tell that your AC system needs repairs includes the noises that it makes. Check out some of the AC noises that can be a sign of a major problem.
Grinding
Many noises are a sign of a component that is worn or damaged and in need of replacement. But if you hear grinding, it is often a sign that there could be a major issue with the air handler. If the bearings in your air handler have become worn, your system will experience increased friction. You will want to have grinding noises inspected immediately so that the motor on your air handler does not burn out.
Buzzing
Buzzing noises coming from the outdoor unit can be either a major or a minor problem. The noise may be the result of loose parts in the system, copper lines rubbing against something else, or a condenser coil that needs cleaning. Unfortunately, it can also be a sign of a failing fan motor, out of balance fan blades, or a leak along the refrigerant line.
Screeching
A screeching noise coming from your AC unit could signify a dangerous issue. Screeching can occur when too much pressure builds up in the compressor and cannot escape. Typically, your system will shut itself off for safety when this occurs, but safety systems can fail. So if you hear screeching, shut your system down and contact an HVAC technician immediately.
