Essential HVAC Guide of Air Conditioning Control Systems
May 5, 2016
When you have a HVAC system, you may consider some type of temperature control along with your air conditioning system. Many people mistakenly believe that there are just one or two different types of air conditioning control systems. Here are the most basic types of temperature control systems and their benefits. Make sure to choose the best system for your home’s HVAC unit. If you have any questions, feel free to contact the experts at Duggan's One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning®.
Basic AC Controller
There is a basic control system that will come with your HVAC system. It also comes with a thermostat that reads the air conditioner’s temperature. The temperature reader is either from inside the controller or in the return air box that is inside your roof. If the temperature read is inside the air box, it may not be accurate. The interior of your home may be much cooler than what the air box is reading. This means your AC runs longer, and you are stuck with a substantial bill.VAV Air Conditioning Controller
VAV stands for “Variable Air Volume” system. This type of control system zones each room, so you have some temperature control of each individual room in your home. Ductwork allows you to stop airflow into a room through adjustable vents. Instead of “open” or “closed,” the vents will adjust on percentages that you would like the room cooler or warmer. VAV is a great and cheap way to control the temperature of a few rooms in your home.Full AC Control
A fully ducted temperature control system works like a VAV system, but each room’s temperature is read and can be adjusted. This allows each person in the home to set the room’s temperature to what is comfortable for them.
