Should I Be Concerned About Emergency Costs on My HVAC System?
March 4, 2016
Even when you have a quality HVAC system, it is good to plan for the worst-case scenario. Putting aside a bit of an emergency budget just makes good sense. But when should you start worrying about the emergency costs on your HVAC system? Here are a few scenarios when you may want to start thinking about alternatives to repair.
How Often Is Your System Breaking Down?
If you have had a lot of recent issues with your HVAC system, then you may want to start taking notice. It is normal for your HVAC system to need an emergency repair once or twice during its lifetime. However, if you start seeing your HVAC technician too many times within a year, you may want to consider replacement rather than repair.
How Old Is Your System?
If your HVAC system is between 10 to 15 years old, you may want to consider upgrading to a new system. Newer systems are much more energy-efficient. This will save you on both on repair costs and your monthly utility bill. Duggan's One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning® is happy to help you choose a new system.
How Much Is the Repair?
Depending on the cost of your emergency repair, it may be a better option to replace your system entirely. Ask your HVAC technician for an estimate on the cost of the repair. If the expense of the repair is more than 50% of the worth of your old system, it may be better to put the money towards a replacement.
Always Be Prepared
If you don’t need an emergency repair quite yet, you should start putting a bit of money away each month so you can cover the cost of a repair or replacement. You don’t want to be stuck in the middle of winter or summer without a working HVAC unit.
