When Should You Replace Your AC?
July 22, 2015
At some point, you will need to replace your air conditioning system. In some cases, that time has already come, but you don’t always know your system needs to be replaced. Here are a few clues that it’s time to invest in a new system:
Your System Was Made Before 2010
Recent changes in the refrigerants used in air conditioning systems may require that you update your system in the near future. If your AC still uses R-22 refrigerant, by 2020, your system may be obsolete. It is better to start looking at new systems that use R-410A so you are financially prepared for the change.
Your System Can’t Keep Up
At some point, your air conditioning system will grow old and have difficulties keeping up with your cooling needs. Not only will your family deal with dissatisfaction when it comes to the temperature of your home, you will likely notice your utility bills are creeping up. Once your system starts approaching the 10-year mark, it is time to consider a replacement. No matter how old your system, you need a replacement when your system is no longer doing its job or the energy demands on your home change significantly.
Your Bills Are Unreasonable
Let’s face it, cooling your home can be expensive, but you know when your utility bills don’t make sense. If you are seeing extremely high utility bills, it might be time to consider investing in a system that works more efficiently. Changing your system now can save you money in monthly energy costs. You shouldn’t have to sacrifice your family’s comfort just to keep your bills affordable.
